SpeakFlow: Helping Children Find Their Voice in French

Learning a new language is one thing. Being able to actually speak it is another.

Learning a new language is one thing. Being able to actually speak it is another. Many children learn French at school, memorise vocabulary and complete exercises, but may still feel shy or unsure when it is time to speak. This is where SpeakFlow comes in.

SpeakFlow is a French conversation programme by Learnguage created for children between the ages of 5 and 16. The programme gives children a relaxed and enjoyable space to practise spoken French, interact with other learners and become more confident using the language. Rather than focusing only on grammar and written exercises, SpeakFlow encourages children to use French in real conversations and everyday activities.

What makes the programme interesting is the variety of activities used to keep children involved. Depending on the programme, children can take part in storytelling, quizzes, spelling activities, debates, games, creative challenges and other interactive sessions. These activities give them different opportunities to listen, speak and express themselves in French without making every class feel like a traditional lesson.

SpeakFlow also creates room for children to discover that learning French can be fun. Activities such as the SpeakFlow Star of the Day recognise children's effort, participation and improvement, while creative activities allow them to use French through singing, dancing, storytelling and other forms of expression. This combination of learning and play can help children become more willing to speak, even when they are still learning.

The programme also brings children together in groups suited to their ages and language levels. This makes it easier for activities to be adapted to the learners rather than expecting every child to learn in exactly the same way. The 2026 summer programme, for instance, included different groups and a range of activities designed to keep children involved throughout the programme.

For parents who want their children to develop their French beyond schoolwork, a conversation-based programme can make a real difference. Regular opportunities to speak can help children build vocabulary, improve pronunciation, listen more carefully and, most importantly, become less afraid of making mistakes.

SpeakFlow is about giving children the opportunity to use French, not just learn about it. With the right environment, a little encouragement and plenty of opportunities to speak, children can begin to find their voice in French.
